Alexander Calder ,The Mobile Genius

Have you ever wondered why Google has been putting doodles in their homepage? In which you could see images of toys, games and gadgets above the search box? And when you clicked on it, it gradually moves around like a balanced mobile object? Well, that would be because of Alexander Calder.

Alexander Calder invented one of the world's greatest inventors and invented, the balanced "MOBILE". He was passionate about kinetic art and wire sculpturing when he was studying in Paris and New York. And it was then in 1930's that he invented the so called "mobile", a french word that means motion and motive. He utilized the natural movement of air inside the room and developed the balance mobile object using his delicate touch. He continued to develop stationary and mobile sculptures in different sizes until he died at the age of 78.

Today, we reminisce the his 113th birthday and in tribute to his works Google used balanced mobile objects in their homepage with the use of HTML5 Canvas. While his 76 foot long mobile sculpture, his largest moving sculpture, still hangs from the ceiling of the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
