Bethany Hamilton, a professional surfer, has undergone an arm surgery in order to repair a nerve damage after she had an accident last June 22 of this year in Indonesia's Mentawai Islands. Bethany slipped from the surfboard while she was surfinf and had the surfingboard's fin injured her bicep.The wound required 10 stitches in order to close it. The cut was made near the arm's major artery. The doctors told her that if it was the major artery that was cut, she could have lost her arm for good.
It has been known that Bethany lost her left arm after she was attack by a shark last 2003. This incident of her life was one of the major influence for the movie soul surfer.Now, Bethany's arm is kept in a sling but no need fpr a physical therapy and her arm movements are good.
Before she had the injury, she has already announced that she isn't going to compete this summer.
